We were impressed with the solid metal and glass fixtures we found on Amazon– but the 6″ rings made it look very small on our lamp posts and “leaked” a lot of light (see previous post).
So we contacted the manufacturer in NY directly, and discovered they make the same fixture with a 10″ hood and they shipped us a pair.
By adding a common socket extension (see slideshow) the light bulb reaches almost to the top of the glass jar and becomes surrounded by the hood– therefore directing most of the light downward where it belongs. This is very close to the “Dark Sky” effect we’re trying to achieve.
In these photos we’re using a 40 watt equivalent warm white bulb (5.5 watts actual, 450 lumens) on lamp posts at Unit 32 and Unit 8.
