Incline Pines parking signs refreshed

Decades of winter weather and sunny summers have taken a toll on our parking space assignment signs. The wood backing boards have decayed and the brass numbers have tarnished. Some signs have disappeared altogether.

The lack of proper signage invites problems with visitors and contractors parking in designated spaces simply because they assume the spaces are unassigned.

The HOA Board did some research on replacing the original seven-inch numbers and found very few products in this size– with anything even close ridiculously expensive.

So we tried polishing the old numbers and the results are astonishing!

A light abrasive sanding block instantly brought the brass back to life.

For a minimal materials expense with volunteer labor, we’ve been able to mount the refreshed numbers on new backing boards attached to galvanized fence posts buried in concrete. Some numbers we thought had disappeared have resurfaced and have been placed back where they belong.

If your parking space is unmarked and you have the numbers saved somewhere– please let us know and we’ll mount them for you.

Meantime– the Board and its architectural committee is considering options for guest parking signage and will keep everyone updated on the progress. By eliminating confusion over where visitors should and should not park, we hope to reduce potential conflicts in the community.

Notes on materials:

  • Pressure-treated backing board 12″ x 12″ with BEHR espresso bean acrylic paint and primer
  • 2-3/8″ galvanized fence post cut to 3′ above terrain, with Rustoleum dark walnut spray paint
  • 50 lb. sack of Quikrete fast-setting fence post mix
  • Assorted hardware

  1. Unit 15 is unmarked and we don’t have the numbers. Were they found or replaced? thanks. appreciate all you do.

We’re not sure, but we think some of the units with parking immediately next to their door never had markers, but this is something we can discuss at our Board meeting on Thursday (via Zoom).

  2. Well done these look really nice! We appreciate your time and efforts . – unit 11

  3. Thanks for the hard work, George! The new poles look nice – simple & unobtrusive. Well done.

Thanks, Susan. It took a little trial and error…we started with skinnier poles, but they looked too delicate. We started with lighter brown paint and it didn’t complement the backing boards. The dark walnut satin on the posts looks really good!

By. the way, your space numbers are on a solid post– so I just polished them. -George
