Dumpster-diving bear hits unsecured dumpster

The Incline Pines bear boxes are routine targets for our black bears, but some appreciate a bigger challenge.

In the late night/early morning hours of July 9-10 a bear presumably found a meal in the community’s recycling dumpster. We say “presumably” because the evidence is entirely circumstantial.

At 10:08 pm on Tuesday, July 9 the Incline Pines dumpster cam captured this image of the bear sniffing around the larger six-yard garbage dumpster.

The camera did not record the actual incursion of the four-yard recycling dumpster but an image captured at 4:45 am on Wednesday, July 10 showed the resulting mess.

Mess outside the recycling dumpster

There are two issues here: Someone placed non-recyclables (wet garbage) in the recycling dumpster and someone failed to secure the latch.

Many thanks to Ted and Susan (Unit 28) and Mark and Heidi (Unit 17) for cleaning up the mess!
